UP STF and J&K Police arrest four Gataru gang members in Meerut
The joint operation in Sadar Bazaar led to the recovery of a laptop and four mobile phones from the accused.
The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Special Task Force (STF), in a joint operation with the Jammu & Kashmir Police, arrested four alleged members of the Gataru gang in Meerut late on Monday, according to The Times of India.
The arrests took place in the Sadar Bazaar area following intelligence inputs from Samba Police on October 22. The suspects are allegedly involved in extortion, robbery, land-grabbing, and contract killings in Jammu & Kashmir.
The arrested individuals have been identified as brothers Saurabh Gupta and Gaurav Gupta from Samba district, Rohit Balona of Vijaypur, and Maaz Qureshi of Meerut. Police recovered four mobile phones and a laptop from the group.
ASP (STF) Brijesh Kumar Singh said preliminary interrogation revealed the Gataru gang is an active criminal syndicate operating primarily in the Jammu and Samba districts. The syndicate is reportedly headed by Sumit Jandiyal, also known as Gataru.
The STF stated that both brothers, Saurabh and Gaurav Gupta, had previously faced action under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu & Kashmir. The gang is reportedly involved in a gang war with the Vicky Khauf gang and a group led by Vikas Salathia over territorial dominance.
