Singer Kanika Kapoor announces separation from husband Gautam Hathiramani
The playback singer requested privacy on social media after announcing she and her husband are going their separate ways.
Playback singer Kanika Kapoor announced her separation from her husband, businessman Gautam Hathiramani, on Tuesday, according to The Indian Express. The singer shared the news via an Instagram story, stating that the decision followed much thought and consideration.
Kapoor, who is known for songs such as Baby Doll and Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan, requested kindness and respect for the couple's privacy. She expressed gratitude for the time they shared and wished Hathiramani well for the future.
The couple married in an intimate ceremony in London in May 2022. The announcement came a day after Kapoor deleted wedding pictures from her Instagram profile.
Addressing rumours regarding her reluctance to move to Lagos, where Hathiramani is based for work, Kapoor said it was not true. She stated that she has not found anyone else and that neither has Hathiramani to her knowledge.
Kapoor noted that this is her second time experiencing a divorce and mentioned she has three children to care for. She said she hopes to keep future interactions with Hathiramani amicable.
The singer was previously married to London-based NRI general practitioner Raj Chandok. Kapoor and Chandok divorced in 2012.
