Keralam Cabinet approves plans for maritime museum and oceanarium
Chief Minister VD Satheesan said the projects are part of the Mission Samudra initiative to boost the state's tourism sector.
The Keralam Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association for a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to execute the International Maritime Museum and Oceanarium projects, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
Chief Minister VD Satheesan stated in Thiruvananthapuram that the SPV will be registered as a Section 8 company and will initially function as a foundation.
These two initiatives are included in the government's Mission Samudra project. Satheesan said the economic model for these developments will be determined at a later date.
The chief minister noted that the Oceanarium will feature modern facilities unlike anything else in India, while the International Maritime Museum will display the maritime history of Keralam to international standards.
Satheesan described the developments as prestigious landmarks for the tourism sector. He added that the government aims to meet its commitments regarding these projects within six months.
The chief minister said that the process has started and steps are being taken to accelerate both projects.
