Kerala CM criticises former Governor over PSC chairman removal recommendation

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan stated that former Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar failed to consult the state government before making the recommendation.

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan criticised former Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday for recommending the removal of Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman M.R. Baiju to President Droupadi Murmu.

According to The Hindu, the recommendation followed a Crime Branch investigation into alleged recruitment irregularities in the State Planning Board.

Addressing the media after a Cabinet meeting on November 4, 2026, Satheesan said the former Governor did not follow due procedure. He stated that the Governor should have consulted the state government before recommending the removal of the chairman and the dissolution of the commission.

The Chief Minister said the Governor's failure to follow constitutional procedures should not serve to hide irregularities within the PSC. He alleged that the Opposition is attempting to protect the PSC chairman and members by focusing on the Governor's actions.

Satheesan noted that the Crime Branch investigation revealed details suggesting the PSC appointed relatives, associates, and party affiliates to various positions. He said every complaint received would be investigated and strict action taken against those found guilty to restore the commission's credibility.

Regarding administrative matters, the Chief Minister maintained that IAS officer transfers followed established rules and described the change of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) chairman as a routine decision. He also said a new liquor policy would be unveiled soon.

Satheesan promised strict action against those involved in an attack on a YouTuber at a police station. He noted that State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar has requested a report from the Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police regarding the incident.
