LDF demands probe into personal data leak at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation

The Left Democratic Front has alleged that applicant details are being misused to file fraudulent complaints against employees.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has called on the State government to investigate the alleged leakage of applicants' personal information at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, according to The Hindu.

LDF Parliamentary Party Leader S.P. Deepak alleged that addresses of individuals submitting applications to the Corporation are being misappropriated for unauthorised uses or to file fraudulent complaints.

Mr. Deepak cited an instance where a complaint was filed against a tax wing office attendant using the name and address of Ajayan, a resident of Madhavapuram, Veli. He claimed the Corporation initiated disciplinary proceedings against the employee without verifying the facts or investigating the matter.

The authorities reportedly discovered the name, address, and signature had been forged only after contacting the actual resident. Mr. Deepak noted that the phone number associated with online applications was also misappropriated for the fraudulent filing.

The LDF leader stated that the submission of such complaints suggests irregularities and unauthorised interference by certain staff members, as applications to local self-government institutions typically require Aadhaar-linked OTP authentication.

Mr. Deepak described the leakage of data provided for various reasons, such as building construction permits, as a serious issue.
