Telangana: Shabbir and Sachin seek support for MLC candidates

Former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir urged minority educational institutions to mobilise alumni networks for the upcoming graduates' constituency elections.

Former minister and government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Wednesday requested minority educational institutions to contact their alumni to gain support for the upcoming MLC elections. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the move aims to strengthen the prospects of Congress candidates in the graduates' constituencies.

A meeting was held in Hyderabad to discuss strategies for two candidates: Sama Rammohan Reddy for the Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ Constituency and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency. The session included AICC secretary Sachin Sawant, TPCC senior vice-president Zafar Javeed, and leaders from approximately 15 minority institutions.

Shabbir Ali noted that previous Congress administrations, specifically the government under former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, encouraged the establishment of many minority medical, engineering, and professional colleges. He suggested that the alumni networks of these colleges could play a significant role in the elections.

During the meeting, Sachin Sawant stated that the Graduate MLC elections have gained importance during Rahul Gandhi's national campaign regarding alleged electoral irregularities and efforts to undermine voting rights. Candidate Sama Rammohan Reddy was also in attendance.
