West Bengal to issue one lakh job appointment letters by May 2027
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated that recruitments will span schools, police, panchayats, and other departments.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the state government will provide appointment letters to at least one lakh job seekers by 8 May 2027. Speaking at Nabanna during a programme for Cooperation Department officials, Adhikari said the recruitment will cover schools, the police, panchayats, and various other departments.
According to Urban Acres, the Chief Minister noted that between the start of his term and 31 October, the government had started or authorised the filling of 63,496 vacant posts. Of these, 60,838 are permanent and regular roles. The figures show 33,409 vacancies in school teaching and non-teaching positions, while 12,147 regular positions are expected in the police and Home Department.
The government has identified 7,119 vacancies in gram panchayats and other panchayat-level departments. Additionally, 5,409 recruitment processes for the Kolkata Police and state police are in the final stages. So far, 10,233 police constables, including 3,044 women, have received appointment letters.
Adhikari said some selected candidates had accepted other employment, leaving certain roles vacant. He stated that the remaining candidates would be summoned in phases once police verification is finished. He also assured that the Public Service Commission, School Service Commission, Police Recruitment Board, and Staff Recruitment Board would remain independent without political or administrative interference.
The government is following a model similar to the Centre's Rozgar Mela, distributing letters through public events. Next steps include getting Finance Department approval for pending vacancies and completing police verifications before the May 2027 deadline.
