Madhya Pradesh CM orders crackdown on illegal liquor and drugs

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a statewide campaign following the death of a police officer during an operation in Dewas.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a statewide crackdown on drug trafficking, organised crime, and illegal liquor on Tuesday. According to ANI, the decision follows the death of Inspector Dilip Puri during an operation to seize illegal liquor in Dewas.

During a high-level meeting at his residence, Yadav instructed senior police officers to break up illegal liquor networks functioning in five districts. He also called for a strategy to combat drug mafias, aiming to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of tackling these groups by 2029.

The Chief Minister stated that the state would use the same decisive methods against organised crime that were used to eliminate Naxalism. He ordered officials to carry out simultaneous operations to stop the storage and movement of illegal liquor across the state.

Regarding the Dewas incident, the government has promised Rs 1 crore in financial aid to the family of Inspector Puri. Yadav also directed that the inspector's wife be appointed as a Sub-Inspector on compassionate grounds.

Police have taken the primary accused, Rahul Jaiswal, into custody and seized the truck used for transport. Other individuals, including driver Gajendra, also known as Appu Rawat, Kiran Singh Chandod, and Keral Singh, have been identified or arrested. Additionally, Assistant District Officer Amar Singh Baghel has been removed from his post.

The Director General of Police has been tasked with reviewing the case to prevent future occurrences. Separately, Yadav advised the public to avoid dangerous firecrackers during Diwali to prevent injuries and loss of eyesight.
