No major veterinary disease outbreak reported in Tamil Nadu, says minister
Animal Husbandry Minister S. Kamali stated that vaccination camps are being held regularly and medicines are being supplied for free to pet owners.
Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Minister S. Kamali said on Wednesday that there has been no major outbreak of veterinary diseases in the state, according to The Hindu.
Speaking in Salem after inspecting veterinary hospitals, Kamali noted that vaccination camps are being conducted regularly and pet owners are receiving medicines at no charge from hospitals.
Addressing reports of 11 milch cows dying in Cuddalore, the minister said a bacterial infection might be the cause and tests are underway to confirm this.
Kamali denied any outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease and also dismissed reports of bird flu in Namakkal district, stating no chicken deaths were linked to the disease.
Regarding the death of over 5,000 chickens in Cuddalore poultry farms, official sources said the possibility of avian influenza has been ruled out.
The minister also advised educating children to avoid bursting crackers near cattle during Deepavali to prevent animal injuries and distress.
