Ziro farmers send over 3,000 chrysanthemum bunches to New Delhi
The consignment was flagged off from Ziro by MLA Hage Appa to expand commercial floriculture in Arunachal Pradesh.
Farmers in Ziro have dispatched more than 3,000 bunches of locally grown chrysanthemums to New Delhi, according to The Assam Tribune. Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa flagged off the consignment from the Mini Secretariat in Ziro.
The flowers were grown under the technical guidance of District Horticulture Officer Hibu Dante. The cultivation received support from the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), which is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
Horticulture Secretary Koj Riniya said the state government is focusing on expanding floriculture by using the diverse agro-climatic conditions and market potential of Arunachal Pradesh. She noted that the department has partnered with the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, to provide technical training to farmers.
Riniya identified Azadpur Mandi in New Delhi as a key market for improving farmer income and strengthening market linkages. She also mentioned that farmers in Ziro are growing gypsophila, with a harvest expected soon.
A special provision for the development of floriculture has been included in the state government's Budget announcement for 2026-27. More than 800 bunches of the chrysanthemums had previously been sold in the local market.
