Telangana universities show mixed results in QS Asia rankings 2027

IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal improved their positions while the University of Hyderabad and Osmania University saw declines, according to Urban Acres.

The QS Asia University Rankings 2027 have shown an uneven trajectory for higher education institutions in Telangana. While IIT Hyderabad and NIT Warangal made significant gains, the University of Hyderabad and Osmania University moved down in the rankings, according to reports from Urban Acres and The Hindu.

IIT Hyderabad rose 19 places from 270th to 251st in Asia. The institute's QS rankings coordinator, Saurabh Shandilya, said research productivity, specifically papers per faculty member and citations per paper, were the main drivers of this improvement. IIT Hyderabad director Professor B S Murty attributed the rise to sustained efforts by faculty, students, researchers, and staff.

NIT Warangal made a substantial jump to 624th from the 771-780 band. Director Professor Vidyadhar Subudhi attributed the progress to a stronger research ecosystem and the recruitment of 120 faculty members. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad entered the rankings in the 1201-1300 band, while Woxsen University moved from 694th to 499th.

The University of Hyderabad slipped 24 places from 246th to 270th in Asia, though it improved its academic reputation ranking by 11 places to 165th. Osmania University fell 180 places from 470th to 650th. Maulana Azad National Urdu University remained in the 1101-1200 band, and the English and Foreign Languages University moved into the 1501+ band.
