Rajasthan government transfers Rs 482 crore to 66 lakh students

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced that funds were sent via direct benefit transfer to assist with school supplies and education.

The Rajasthan state government has sent Rs 482 crore to 66 lakh students using direct benefit transfer (DBT) to assist with educational needs, according to The Times of India.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Tuesday that the funds cover costs such as school bags and uniforms. He noted that 3.63 lakh girls received Rs 109 crore through the Gargi award scheme.

Under state schemes, students in Classes I to VIII and girls in Classes IX to XII in government schools get Rs 800 each for uniforms and bags. Sharma stated that approximately Rs 250 crore was sent to nearly 41.56 lakh students in Classes I to VIII for free uniforms.

Speaking at a talent development camp in Jaipur, Sharma said educating girls is a priority. He credited the central government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign for shifting social attitudes toward girls' education.

The Chief Minister added that the government distributed over eight crore textbooks, 14 lakh bicycles, and 88,000 tablets during the last two academic sessions. He also mentioned that 4.41 lakh students received free admission under the Right to Education Act.

Regarding women's empowerment, Sharma said 25 lakh women received training through Rajeevika and more than 20 lakh became ‘Lakhpati Didis’. He also noted that over 4,000 government schools have sanitary pad vending machines installed.
