KEA to appoint two invigilators per hall for recruitment exams

The Karnataka Examination Authority is introducing new security measures following reported irregularities during a recent Village Administrative Officer recruitment examination in Haveri.

The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has decided to appoint two invigilators for every examination hall to prevent irregularities, according to The Hindu. This decision follows reports of misconduct at the Shiggaon examination centre in Haveri district during a recent Village Administrative Officer (VAO) recruitment exam.

stating that one invigilator will stand at the rear of the hall and another at the front, KEA Executive Director H. Prasanna said the staff will also ensure mobile signal jammers are functioning. The authority will also conduct a second round of checking inside the hall because previous frisking rules were not implemented seriously.

KEA has also decided to appoint a separate invigilator at each centre to monitor CCTV footage and establish district-level monitoring systems through webcasting. Candidates must reach centres at least 30 minutes before the exam begins, as those arriving at the last minute will not be permitted to enter, Prasanna said.

The move comes after a candidate in Haveri, who topped the VAO exam despite a poor academic record, was found to have used a mobile phone during the test. Haveri police are currently probing the case. KEA has published a list of marks for the top 5,000 VAO candidates on its website to ensure transparency.

Prasanna requested District Commissioners to examine CCTV footage in cases involving significant variations in marks. He urged the public to report suspicions via email and cautioned against spreading unverified information on social media.
