SEBI partners with Digital India BHASHINI for regional language services

The regulator will use AI-powered tools to provide market information and services in multiple Indian languages.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Digital India BHASHINI division on Tuesday to provide services in regional languages, according to Mint.

The agreement allows the markets regulator to use various artificial intelligence tools, including machine translation, voice-to-text, text-to-voice, and optical character recognition, to reach investors in multiple Indian languages.

Under the pact, BHASHINI's language models will also be improved by incorporating specific terminology used in the securities market.

SEBI Whole-Time Member Sandip Pradhan and Digital India BHASHINI (DIBD) Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Nag signed the agreement in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

DIBD is an independent division under the Digital India Corporation, which is a not-for-profit company established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

BHASHINI, which stands for BHASHa INterface for India, is an AI-powered platform launched by the Government of India in July 2022 to provide real-time translation across more than 20 Indian languages.
