Security guard dies in Peravallur warehouse fire

A 54-year-old man died of suffocation after a blaze occurred at an e-commerce storage facility on Tuesday morning.

A 54-year-old security guard died of suffocation following a fire at an e-commerce warehouse on SRP Koil Road in Peravallur on Tuesday morning, according to The Hindu.

The guard, identified as Ramamoorthy, was on duty when he entered the first-floor premises to find the source of smoke. The fire spread quickly and trapped him inside.

Fire and Rescue Services teams from Kolathur and Sembium arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. Although personnel rescued Ramamoorthy, he was declared dead at Periyar Nagar Government Hospital.

The warehouse, which has operated for two years, was rented by an online delivery company to store customer orders in a building owned by Iliyas.

Peravallur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident, with an electrical short circuit suspected to be the cause. Ramamoorthy was a native of Mathur near Madhavaram.

The deceased's body has been sent for a postmortem examination.
