Rescheduling Jamboo Savari was only a suggestion, says Pramoda Devi Wadiyar

The former Mysuru royal family member clarified that the final decision on the procession date rests with the State government.

Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family clarified on Wednesday that her proposal to move the Jamboo Savari from Vijayadashami to Rathothsava day was merely a suggestion. Speaking at a press conference at the Mysuru palace, she stated that the State government holds the final authority on the matter, according to The Hindu.

Ms. Wadiyar said the idea was shared through a press statement instead of an official letter to the government. She noted the proposal was intended to gain public support and was not meant to offend the State government.

The former royal family member expressed grievances regarding poor coordination between departments and the conduct of police officers at the Karikal Thotthi and Brahmapuri gates. She said these issues interfered with traditional religious rituals during Ayudha Pooja and Vijayadashami.

Regarding the cancellation of the Vajramushti Kalaga wrestling event, Ms. Wadiyar explained that waiting for delayed wrestlers would have caused the family to miss the auspicious muhurtha for the Vijaya Yatre. She noted that while the martial art is a palace tradition, it is not a religious ritual and has been cancelled previously.

Ms. Wadiyar also asserted that the Golden Throne and the Ambari remain the private property of the erstwhile royal family. She stated that the Mysore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, 1998, does not cover other assets in the private inventory of the former Maharaja.

She added that the 1998 Act is currently facing a legal challenge in court. Comparing the situation to the Bangalore Palace dispute, she noted that the Bangalore royal family retains possession of their palace while an appeal is pending in the Supreme Court.
