Vaishnavi Adkar and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi win opening matches at Chennai Open

The two Indian players secured their first WTA Tour-level victories during the tournament in Chennai.

Vaishnavi Adkar and Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi secured their first WTA Tour-level victories at the WTA 250 Chennai Open, according to Sportstar. Both players were awarded main draw wild cards for the tournament.

Vaishnavi Adkar, the country's top female player ranked World No. 344, defeated Britain's Jodie Burrage with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 scoreline. The match lasted two hours and 46 minutes.

Vaishnavi Adkar told reporters that the win was her biggest tournament-level victory so far. She said she felt pressure and self-doubt before the match but decided to act as a warrior on the court.

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, a 17-year-old from Coimbatore, defeated World No. 115 Katarzyna Kawa 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5). The teenager overcame a 2-5 deficit in the third set to win her first WTA Tour match.

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi said she was happy to go for her shots and that taking risks paid off. She noted that she had regretted being less brave in previous matches.

Last year at the same event, both players lost in the opening round during their Tour-level debuts.
