Trump says US will end $3.8 billion annual security aid to Israel

The decision to terminate the 10-year assistance accord comes as American voters cast ballots in midterm elections.

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, that Washington is ending a 10-year security assistance agreement with Israel. According to The Hindu, the accord provided $3.8 billion in annual assistance to the ally until 2028.

Speaking in an interview on Fox and Friends, Trump stated he had reached an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cut the aid. He said that Israel is the top recipient of US support but no longer requires the funding, adding that he would continue assistance if it were needed.

The assistance deal began in 2019 and was signed under former President Barack Obama. Trump noted that Netanyahu was in agreement with the decision to end the payments.

The announcement coincided with the US midterm elections. Trump cited attacks from Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate for the US Senate, as part of his reasoning for the decision. He referred to El-Sayed as a lunatic who harnesses anti-Israel sentiment.

The move drew criticism from Israeli opposition candidate Gadi Eisenkot. In a statement, Eisenkot said the shift in the strategic relationship was being learned through the media and argued that Netanyahu must be replaced.

Vice-President J.D. Vance told reporters that he and the President feel positive about the possibility of reaching a negotiated settlement regarding talks with Iran.
