US has no immediate plan to strike Iran, says Trump
President Donald Trump stated the United States is prepared for military action if necessary while indirect discussions with Tehran continue.
US President Donald Trump said the United States has no immediate plans to launch another strike on Iran, according to a News18 report. Speaking to The Financial Times, Trump suggested he is satisfied with the current stand-off but noted Washington remains prepared to resume military action if required.
Trump described the US as being ready for action if an attack on Iran becomes necessary. He added that indirect talks between Washington and Tehran are ongoing, covering topics such as Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
The President's comments follow reports from The New York Times on Tuesday that the US military was preparing for a possible strike as early as Wednesday. Trump previously confirmed military action during a Fox News interview, describing a recent operation against an anti-aircraft facility on Qeshm Island as a minor attack.
In response to the strikes, Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated the country is prepared for battle. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran retains the right to legitimate self-defence.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his government is seeking to resolve the crisis through dialogue. Pezeshkian warned that no one would benefit from war and noted the Supreme Leader had granted the government new powers to negotiate on previously off-limits issues.
