Vikarabad medical college students allege lack of basic facilities
Students at the Government Medical College in Vikarabad claim they are struggling with inadequate infrastructure and temporary living conditions.
Students of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Vikarabad alleged on Wednesday that the institution is facing an infrastructure and administrative crisis. According to Telangana Today, the college, which was established in 2023, continues to operate from temporary premises in Godamguda and Burgupally.
The students claimed that the institution lacks a dedicated campus hostel. They alleged that female students are staying inside a Central Government Ayush Hospital building, where 16 to 17 people are reportedly crowded into individual ward rooms.
Academic facilities are also reportedly insufficient, with only two functional lecture halls available for four separate batches. Students also pointed out a complete absence of usable toilets on the college campus.
The students said the campus mess facility has been suspended for nearly two months due to substandard food quality. They alleged that because no new catering contractor has been appointed, they must cook in their rooms or buy food externally.
Commuting is another issue, as nearly 300 medical students depend on TSRTC bus services. Students alleged that RTC buses rarely stop for them when they travel to campus facilities and clinical postings.
The students have urged the State government, health department, KNRUHS, and the NMC to intervene, inspect the facilities, and expedite the construction of the permanent campus.
