Odisha to fill over 1,800 teaching posts in recruitment drive

Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj reviewed academic schemes and recruitment progress during a meeting at the department conference hall.

Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj reviewed academic schemes, infrastructure projects, and recruitment processes during a meeting at the Higher Education Department conference hall on Monday. According to Pragativadi, the minister evaluated the progress of the Gyanodaya – KG to PG Free Education Scheme and various projects under PM-USHA.

The implementation of the Gyanodaya Scheme has led to an increase in regular undergraduate admissions. Enrolment rose by 14,758 students from 1,64,179 in the previous session to 1,78,937 students this session. The highest admission percentages were recorded in Kalahandi at 99.09 per cent and Koraput at 98.82 per cent.

To improve governance, the government has created 48 new Principal positions, ensuring all 66 government degree colleges in Odisha have sanctioned positions for the role. Additionally, 262 new non-teaching posts have been sanctioned across 17 state universities following an administrative rationalisation process.

Minister Suraj stated that the state is accelerating recruitment to tackle faculty shortages. Currently, recruitment for 385 Assistant Professor (Stage-1) posts in 66 government degree colleges is in progress, while 1,434 teaching positions are being processed across 17 universities.

The State Selection Board (SSB) has completed examinations for more than 2,800 posts over the last two years. The SSB also recently issued notifications to fill 1,557 vacancies across different cadres this year.

Reaffirming the vision of "Education for All, Higher Education for All," the minister instructed officials to finish all departmental schemes and PM-USHA infrastructure projects by their deadlines. The meeting included Higher Education Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aravind Agrawal and Director Kali Prasanna Mohapatra.
