The 38-year-old batter has maintained a high average while increasing his scoring rate in the ODI format.
Virat Kohli has scored 626 runs in 10 international appearances this year, according to a report by India Today. The former India captain has recorded two hundreds and four half-centuries during these appearances, maintaining an average of 69.55 and a strike rate of 120.61.
In a recent One Day International (ODI) match at Eden Park in Auckland, Kohli scored 74 runs off 51 deliveries. His innings included 13 boundaries and one six. The performance came on a surface that offered bounce and movement to fast bowlers after New Zealand was bowled out for 185.
Kohli reached his half-century in 35 balls. During the innings, he hit three boundaries against Blair Tickner, including two pulls through mid-wicket and one guided towards deep fine-leg.
The batter's scoring rate has increased compared to 2023, when he scored 1,377 runs in 27 ODIs at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13. Since retiring from Test cricket, Kohli has amassed 1,002 runs in 16 ODIs at a strike rate of 115.17.
Ravi Shastri, who has watched Kohli bat for years, said the Auckland innings was among the best knocks the former captain had played in challenging conditions.
