Services pacer Jayant Goyat takes maiden five-wicket haul in Ranji Trophy
The 21-year-old fast bowler helped Services fight back against Delhi on Day 3 of their match at Palam.
Services fast bowler Jayant Goyat claimed a maiden five-wicket haul during the Ranji Trophy match against Delhi at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam on Wednesday, according to the Times of India.
The 21-year-old pacer, who is part of the Services squad through the Agniveer scheme, achieved the feat in his 12th first-class appearance. Goyat said the slow and flat wicket required extra effort to get results.
Services head coach AP Singh, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, described Goyat as an exciting talent. Singh said the youngster applied lessons from a team meeting by bowling in good areas and lengths rather than searching for wickets.
Goyat, who hails from Haryana's Bhiwani district, said his father, Dr Wazir Singh Goyat, took him to cricket. Dr Wazir Singh Goyat was a fast bowler in the Haryana Ranji Trophy squad during the last season of Kapil Dev.
The pacer, who previously played for India Under-19, said he is working on his strength training to increase his bowling speed. He noted that his natural length is back of a length and he aims to hit the deck.
