A nine-year-old girl died on Wednesday morning after suffering an alleged cardiac arrest at a school in Mayur Vihar.
A nine-year-old Class 3 student died after collapsing in her classroom at Lovely Public School in Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, on Wednesday morning, according to reports by ANI and ThePrint.
The Delhi Police received a PCR call regarding the incident at approximately 9:52 am. The child was taken to Malik Redix Health Care in Nirman Vihar, where doctors declared her brought dead.
School principal Bhawna Malik stated that the girl had returned to the classroom following her play period and collapsed after standing for about two minutes. Malik said the school staff immediately sought medical help and notified the mother.
CCTV footage from the classroom reportedly shows the student suddenly falling to the floor. The footage also shows a teacher rushing to assist the child and other students gathering around her, according to The Pioneer and ThePrint.
The girl's relatives have questioned the school's emergency response, alleging that staff failed to provide adequate first aid or administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The principal noted that staff initially thought the collapse might be related to a bleeding injury on the child's chin.
Delhi Police are conducting a preliminary enquiry and examining CCTV footage to establish the exact circumstances. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and statements from the parents and school authorities are to be recorded.
