Delhi Police extradite rape accused from UAE
Sajeer Palli Mooppan was brought back from Abu Dhabi to face trial for the alleged sexual assault of a woman.
The Delhi Police Central District Unit brought back a rape accused from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on November 4, 2026, according to ANI. The accused, identified as Sajeer Palli Mooppan, also known as Sajeer PM, is a 38-year-old senior manager at Joyalukkas and a native of Kannur, Kerala.
The extradition followed international cooperation involving the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Police allege that Mooppan sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman in the early hours of October 2, 2025, at a hotel in Karol Bagh. The incident reportedly occurred after the woman was made to consume alcohol and intoxicating substances during a company birthday gathering in Punjabi Bagh on the night of October 1, 2025.
The accused allegedly used a third person's identity credentials to check into the hotel to hide the victim's identity. Following the incident, the company's Internal Committee initiated proceedings under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) framework, but Mooppan did not participate in the inquiry.
Mooppan fled India on January 5, 2026, and began working at a plumbing accessories shop in Dubai. After the victim filed a formal complaint on February 18, 2026, an FIR was registered at Karol Bagh Police Station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A Red Corner Notice was issued against him through INTERPOL on July 7, 2026. Following the approval of the extradition request by Abu Dhabi authorities on October 9, 2026, a three-member police team was sent to the UAE to retrieve him.
