Mobile phone batteries and watch straps seized during Siwan jail inspection
District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena led a mandatory surprise inspection of the Bihar prison to check for prohibited items and compliance.
Authorities recovered mobile phone batteries and watch straps during a surprise inspection at the Siwan divisional jail in Bihar on Thursday, according to ANI.
Siwan District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena said the inspection was a mandatory procedure involving a thorough check of the entire premises and individual cells.
Meena noted that while the inmate population is between 10 per cent and 20 per cent above capacity, other arrangements follow the official jail manual. He stated that CCTV surveillance and medical care are currently in place.
The inspection covered high-risk areas, isolation units, medical wards, and sanitation facilities. Meena said the team also checked potential blind spots during the process.
The District Magistrate has ordered the installation of more CCTV cameras and instructed that doctors work on a rotational basis. He also requested food safety officials to verify the quality of food provided to inmates.
The administration has established a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for these routine raids, which will be supervised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Additional District Magistrate (ADM). Meena said discussions are ongoing regarding the seized items and next steps.
