Delhi: 9-year-old girl dies after collapsing in classroom

The family of the Class 3 student has questioned the school's emergency response and why CPR was not administered.

A nine-year-old Class 3 student died after collapsing in her classroom at Lovely Heritage School in Mayur Vihar Phase II, East Delhi, on Wednesday morning. According to The Pioneer, the incident occurred after the girl returned to her classroom following a games period.

CCTV footage shows the child entering the room and placing a hand on her waist before falling to the floor. The class teacher rushed to the girl and attempted to place her on a chair, but the student appeared unconscious and had a bleeding injury on her chin.

School principal Bhawna Malik said the child suffered a cardiac arrest and was immediately rushed to a hospital. Malik stated that a nurse was present on the premises and that staff initially believed the loss of consciousness was linked to the injury on the child's chin.

The girl was taken to Malik Radix Health Care in Nirman Vihar, where doctors declared her dead. The family alleged that the school lacked adequate medical arrangements to handle such emergencies despite the fees charged by the institution.

Delhi Police received a PCR call regarding the incident at approximately 9.52 am on Wednesday. The police have taken possession of the body for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the collapse. Police said they will record statements from the school authorities and the parents as part of the ongoing inquiry.
