Tripura defeats Saurashtra to revive season after three losses

Off-spinner Sandip Sarkar took eight wickets as Tripura overcame former champion Saurashtra at home, according to Sportstar.

Tripura defeated former champion Saurashtra at home to secure a comeback victory after losing their first three matches this season, according to Sportstar. The win was led by 23-year-old off-spinner Sandip Sarkar, who claimed eight wickets during the match.

Tripura coach Satrajit Lahiri said he studied videos of individual Saurashtra players to draw up specific plans for his bowlers. Lahiri told Sportstar that the team even put a chit on the dressing-room wall with instructions on which areas to target and how to approach batters.

The bowling attack followed defined roles, with Parvez Sultan tasked to contain batters and Abhijit Sarkar used to provide breakthroughs. India international Mandeep Singh assisted Sarkar by advising him to bowl slower and use cross-seam deliveries on rank turners.

Batters Ridam Paul and Sandip Sarkar, who scored 50 and 86 respectively, both hail from Bamutia in the Mohanpur sub-division. Paul noted that the absence of Hanuma Vihari was felt, as the BCCI did not grant Tripura a replacement after Vihari decided to miss the remainder of the season.

Captain Manisankar Murasingh used shorter bowling spells to keep the opposition guessing, according to Mandeep Singh. While the team still needs to improve its batting, the victory has provided the side with necessary confidence.
