AJKTWA delegation meets Transport Minister Javed Ahmad Rana in Jammu
The delegation discussed transport operator challenges including fuel prices, tourism slowdown, and the implementation of vehicle tracking devices.
A delegation of the All J&K Transport Welfare Association (AJKTWA), led by chairman Karan Singh Wazir, met with Transport Minister Javed Ahmad Rana in Jammu on Monday.
According to the Daily Excelsior, Wazir informed the Minister about challenges facing the sector, such as rising fuel prices due to global geopolitical tensions and a slowdown in tourism in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Wazir expressed concern regarding the implementation of Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), stating that the financial burden on transporters should be reconsidered due to a lack of departmental infrastructure and monitoring mechanisms.
The Association requested the restoration of the vehicle permit replacement facility for up to 20 years instead of the current 10-year limit.
Other demands included the release of pending subsidies of Rs 5 lakh per vehicle under the Vehicle Replacement Subsidy Policy and the regulation of e-buses and e-autos.
The meeting was attended by several members, including Vijay Singh Chib, Gurdeep Singh, and Bharat Bhushan Sharma.
