Police rescued 22 workers trapped in flash floods near Routhugudem village in the Jeelugumilli mandal of Eluru district on Wednesday, according to The Hindu.
The workers, who were engaged in constructing a bridge in the Agency area, became stranded in floodwaters on the National Highway.
A team led by Jeelugumilli Circle Inspector Yadagiri carried out the rescue operation. Kranthi Kumar, who was part of the operation, said the workers were moved to a safe location and given shelter.
Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore has instructed police to remain alert and station pickets at vulnerable locations. This comes as several streams and rivulets are in spate due to continuous rain in the upstream area.
