Odisha seeks Rs 2,526 crore central assistance for cyclone and flood relief

The state government has also requested a Rs 10,000 crore package to build long-term disaster-resilient infrastructure in vulnerable regions.

The Odisha government on Thursday requested Rs 2,526 crore in central financial assistance to address damage caused by cyclone Arnab and floods, according to reports by Rediff and Pragativadi.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil confirmed the request follows a detailed assessment of the Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kandhamal districts. The funds are intended to address severe damage in these areas.

In addition to immediate relief, the state has sought a special Rs 10,000 crore aid package. SRC Rajesh P Patil said this grant is required to reconstruct irrigation facilities and other infrastructure damaged during the calamity.

A central inter-ministerial team met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to discuss recovery operations after conducting field inspections of river embankments, agricultural tracts, and public infrastructure.

The central team is expected to prepare a damage evaluation report and send it to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in 8 to 10 days to assist with funding.
