Cyclone Murasu causes heavy rain and flooding in Bhadradri Kothagudem

Agricultural lands were inundated and road transport was disrupted in several mandals on Wednesday due to the cyclone.

Heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Murasu caused widespread flooding in Aswaraopet, Dammapeta, and other mandals of Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday, according to The Hindu.

The downpour inundated large areas of farmland and halted vehicle movement on various roads. In Aswaraopet mandal, the temporary ring bund of the Peddavagu medium irrigation project reportedly breached, flooding nearby village fields.

Waterlogging occurred in low-lying areas including Naramvarigudem and Aswaraopet as ponds and streams swelled overnight. In Dammapeta, rainwater flooded the Nemalipeta colony, causing difficulties for local residents.

On the Palvancha-Dammapeta road, traffic stopped after floodwaters swept away a diversion road near Rajupeta in Mulakalapalli mandal on Wednesday morning.

The rains damaged standing paddy and cotton crops, as well as harvested produce, across parts of the erstwhile undivided Khammam district. Local authorities declared holidays for schools in some mandals on Wednesday due to the weather.
