Four Tamil Nadu fishermen's bodies recovered off Andhra coast after boat capsizes
Search operations continue for five missing fishermen after their boat capsized during Cyclone Murasu while moving between ports.
Four bodies of Tamil Nadu fishermen have been recovered off the Andhra Pradesh coast after their boat capsized during Cyclone Murasu, according to Rediff.
Prakasam District Collector P Raja Babu said on Thursday that nine fishermen had gone missing after their boat, which was anchored at Nizampatnam, attempted to move towards Ramayapatnam on November 3.
Of the four recovered bodies, three washed ashore at Kothapatnam and one was retrieved during search operations. All four are being shifted to the Government General Hospital mortuary.
Babu stated that the fishermen had set out from Chennai on October 29 and were advised to move to safe locations due to the approaching cyclone. While officials confirmed on November 2 that all boats were safe, the nine fishermen began moving towards Ramayapatnam on November 3 without informing Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu authorities.
The boat was caught in severe cyclonic winds and subsequently capsized. The Coast Guard was alerted to launch rescue operations, and the Tamil Nadu government has shared the names and photographs of the nine fishermen.
The Tamil Nadu government has deputed a team, including a Fisheries assistant director, to Andhra Pradesh to confirm identities and check the status of the five remaining missing persons.
