The Indian People’s Theatre Association organised a programme in Golaghat featuring musical tributes to the legendary singer.

The concluding ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations for singer, composer, and cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika was held in Golaghat on Tuesday, according to The Sentinel. The event took place at the Bezbaruah Government Higher Secondary School playground.

The programme was organised by the state committee of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) and its Golaghat district committee. IPTA state President Sarat Chandra Neog spoke about the necessity of preserving and reviving Hazarika's lesser-known songs linked to the IPTA movement.

During the event, senior journalist Rohit Gogoi lit a ceremonial lamp before a portrait of Hazarika. IPTA State General Secretary Bipul Talukdar and Golaghat district President Ratneswar Saikia offered floral tributes.

The ceremony included an inaugural address by Dr Ajit Baruah and a keynote speech by literary critic Dr Paramananda Majumdar. Several veteran artistes and farmers were also felicitated for their contributions.

Separately, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tributes to Hazarika on his death anniversary on Thursday, as reported by ThePrint. Sarma stated on X that the Bharat Ratna awardee's contribution to the cultural landscape of Assam was unparalleled.

The year-long birth centenary celebrations began on September 8, 2025, and are scheduled to conclude on November 29 in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
