Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurates Odugathur fire station in Vellore

The new facility, built at a cost of ₹1.35 crore, replaces an office that functioned at a veterinary clinic.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay virtually inaugurated a new fire station in Odugathur town at the foothills of Jawadhu Hills on Wednesday, according to The Hindu.

The permanent building was constructed by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Limited on a 2.5-acre plot at a cost of ₹1.35 crore.

Prior to this opening, the Odugathur fire station office operated from the premises of the Government Veterinary Clinic.

The new facility includes officers' quarters, six rooms for leading firefighters, and a large training ground. It also features two overhead tanks with a 50,000-litre capacity each and a 40-feet-deep farm well.

Station Fire Officer P. Baskar told The Hindu that the new building provides ample space for vehicles, such as a fire tender, and meets a long-standing demand.

The Odugathur fire station serves at least 60 tribal villages within a 40 km radius. Currently, fire stations in Katpadi, Gudiyatham, Pernambut, and Vellore also operate in their own buildings.
