Greater Chennai Corporation workers cleared the structures in MRC Nagar on Thursday because they violated laws regulating public spaces.
Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) staff removed large cutouts of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP supremo Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in MRC Nagar on Thursday, according to reports by Deccan Chronicle, ThePrint and Moneycontrol.
The cutouts were erected by YSRCP followers to welcome Reddy and Vijay for a family wedding of the former Chief Minister. It has not been officially confirmed if Vijay will attend the event.
An official stated that the removal was in line with a state policy decision to remove structures that hinder the public. The official added that the GCC moved to clear the cutouts because they directly violated strict laws regulating public spaces.
The official also noted that the GCC has actively deployed workers across city zones to remove public banners and dangerous hoarding frames, coinciding with the northeast monsoon.
