CJP leaders appear before Delhi Police for Jantar Mantar questioning

Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka reached the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden on Thursday regarding October protest cases.

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka appeared at the Delhi Police Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden on Thursday. According to The Shillong Times, they were summoned for questioning in connection with cases involving a protest at the de-notified Jantar Mantar site in October.

The investigation relates to an incident on October 13 when Das, Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde, along with 11 others, allegedly trespassed into the de-notified protest area. The group was protesting alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised slogans against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

The leaders had previously been summoned in October but requested more time to appear. The cases, which were registered at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations, were later transferred to the Crime Branch.

Das and Ranka were detained by the police and held in judicial custody for one week. They were released from Tihar jail on October 21 after providing personal and surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each, as directed by Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Ritu Raj.

In written undertakings submitted to the SEM court, the two activists promised to avoid any breach of peace and expressed faith in the judiciary. Police also alleged that their actions during the protest violated a peace bond they had signed on October 11.
