Police arrest man who evaded murder and theft case for 30 years
The fugitive, Krishnakumar, allegedly lived under a false identity in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala before being tracked by Thrissur City Police.
The Thrissur City Police have arrested 49-year-old Krishnakumar, who had been evading arrest for nearly three decades in connection with a murder and gold theft case. According to South First, the man was tracked across Uttar Pradesh and Kerala before being apprehended in Kundara.
The case originated on October 31, 1995, when 65-year-old Martha was found suffocated to death at Kizhakke Kotta in Thrissur. Six sovereigns of gold ornaments were also reported missing following the incident.
Krishnakumar and his friend Prasad, both 18 at the time, were arrested within a week of the crime. It is alleged that Prasad, who worked at a hotel where the victim ate, shared information that the two used to plan the robbery and murder.
While Prasad was re-arrested later, Krishnakumar went into hiding and remained untraceable despite a court warrant. Investigators found he had changed his name and lived in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, for 15 years before moving to Kundara in Kollam.
In Kundara, Krishnakumar reportedly worked as a welder, married, and started a family under an assumed identity. A lead from the State Police Intelligence and information regarding a relative in New Delhi helped the police narrow down his location.
The Thrissur City Police Commissioner launched a systematic investigation by consulting officers who handled the original case. The trial for the murder case is currently in its final stages.
