Twelve staffers issued memos over ventilator theft at RIMS Adilabad

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences director issued memos to pulmonology and respiratory intensive care unit staff following the theft of four ventilators.

Dr Jaisingh Rathod, director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad, issued memos to 12 staffers on Wednesday. The action follows the theft of four ventilators from the institute's respiratory intensive care unit (RICU) a few days ago, according to Telangana Today.

The memos were issued to staff members working in the pulmonology department and the RICU for negligence in protecting the life-saving machines. Dr Rathod stated that action would be taken against those found negligent in safeguarding the equipment.

The theft occurred on the afternoon of October 30, when two unknown persons took the ventilators while doctors and nurses were on duty. The incident was reported to the police on November 3 after a nurse lodged a complaint, leading the Adilabad II Town police to register a case.

Four special police teams have been formed to detect the offenders, and officials have reportedly detained one suspect. RIMS authorities said they have heightened security and provided walkie-talkies to security personnel.

The institute plans to submit a proposal to the government seeking a special protection force. Authorities said steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
