Karnataka CM urges private companies to prioritise local hiring

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar promised government protection against moral policing if firms give importance to Kannadiga candidates during recruitment.

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has requested private companies to give priority to local talent from Karnataka during recruitment drives, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

Speaking at a CSR-related event in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Shivakumar said the state government would act as a facilitator for firms looking to hire skilled youngsters.

The Chief Minister assured companies of full government support and protection against moral policing or interference. He stated that the government would ensure no one misuses their office or interferes in Kannada issues.

While Shivakumar clarified that the state government would not meddle in skill criteria, he stressed that companies have a responsibility to recruit Kannadigas because of the local talent pool.

These remarks follow a statewide campaign by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, led by activist T A Narayana Gowda, to assess employment opportunities for Kannadigas in private firms.

Gowda said on Tuesday that the campaign, which involves collecting recruitment data from IT and other major companies, will continue until November 30. A delegation plans to meet the Chief Minister to seek time-bound action on implementing job reservations.
