Search operations continue for three other passengers after a vehicle plunged into a river near Gangnani Dharmakund.
Four people died after a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) plunged into a river on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi on Thursday morning, according to The Assam Tribune. The accident occurred near Gangnani Dharmakund, approximately 20 metres towards Dabrani, when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road.
The seven-seater car was carrying seven people at the time of the incident. While four bodies have been recovered from the riverbank, search teams are still looking for the remaining three passengers.
District Magistrate Prashant Arya directed the immediate deployment of relief and rescue teams. Personnel from the local police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and 108 emergency services arrived at the scene to begin operations.
Divers and water police are currently searching the river, though strong currents are making the task difficult. The district administration has alerted medical teams and the disaster management centre to provide urgent care to any survivors.
Authorities are working to reach the families of the victims while an investigation into the cause of the crash continues. In a separate matter, officials are also working to evacuate seven trekkers and a guide stranded in the Kedartal region.
