Trump showcases White House ballroom construction after Republican midterm losses

The US President discussed architectural details of the new structure following the loss of Senate and House control by Republicans.

US President Donald Trump appeared at a White House ballroom construction site on Wednesday to discuss the project's design. The appearance followed a day where Democrats secured control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, according to News18.

Trump met with construction workers as they raised the final steel beam of the new structure. The President signed the beam with a marker and placed a small evergreen tree on top of it.

Describing the planned features, Trump said the pillars would be made of limestone in a Corinthian design. He told reporters to envision marble floors and chandeliers, stating, "Oh, it’s going to be good."

Trump noted that the ballroom would extend five stories underground and could become the "safest place in Washington", according to The Associated Press (AP). He explained that the kitchen would be located underground to save space.

The President did not mention the Republican Party's electoral defeat during his remarks on the construction. However, when taking questions, Trump told reporters, "If I were on the ballot, I would have won."

Reuters reported that some Republican strategists have suggested the administration focus on reducing consumer prices and ending the Iran war rather than pursuing expensive prestige projects.
