Iran security chief claims Trump suffered military and political defeats

Secretary Mohsen Rezai linked Republican losses in the US midterm elections to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Mohsen Rezai, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, claimed on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump suffered both military and political defeats following the US midterm elections. According to reports from News18 and WION, Rezai stated that the Iranian nation delivered a strategic defeat on the battlefield and in the Hormuz region, alongside a political loss in Washington.

The midterm elections resulted in the Democratic Party taking control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Rezai, posting on X, suggested that Americans are paying the financial costs of the war. He warned that anyone challenging Iran would face consequences from the battlefield to their own homes.

The conflict began eight months ago with US-Israeli strikes on Iran. This has disrupted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which has contributed to rising oil prices and living costs. President Trump acknowledged that the war played a major role in the Republican defeat, noting the rise in petrol prices.

However, Trump told reporters he would repeat the military campaign to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei also issued a warning on Wednesday, stating that US policy towards Tehran will not change despite the midterm results. Khamenei advised Iranians not to expect a softening of US hostility and warned that the scope of the war could widen if aggressions continue.

US Vice President JD Vance also stated on X that the war was the reason for the Republican Party's loss in the elections.
