Trump says Iran war influenced Republican losses in US midterms
The US President suggested the West Asia conflict affected voters as Democrats prepare to take control of the House and Senate.
US President Donald Trump acknowledged on Wednesday that the war in Iran played a role in the Republican Party losing the midterm elections. According to reports from Business Today and Business Standard, Democrats are now preparing to take control of both the US House and Senate.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that the conflict in West Asia weighed on Republican candidates. He suggested that while the war was a factor, voters also recognised the significance of his actions regarding Iran.
Trump said he intends to veto legislation from the Democrats that he describes as insane. He added that after several months of such vetoes, he expects the parties to work together to pass measures.
Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on X that the election results show Americans do not want war. He stated that Tehran endorses this message but warned that if the US government betrays public will, it will face a nightmare.
An Associated Press election day poll indicated that approximately 6 in 10 voters believed the US made the wrong decision regarding military action against Iran. The Pentagon estimates the cost of the war has exceeded $47.1 billion.
The poll also found that one-third of voters viewed the Iran war as a crucial factor in their voting decisions. Additionally, about three-quarters of voters reported feeling angry or dissatisfied with the current trajectory of the US.
