Trump threatens to use veto power as Democrats take US Congress

US President Donald Trump intends to use his presidential veto against legislative proposals from the Democrat-controlled House and Senate.

US President Donald Trump has declared his intent to use his presidential veto power against legislative proposals from a Democrat-controlled Congress, according to Rediff. The Democrats secured a victory in the midterm elections, flipping both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Trump told Fox News that he holds the power to veto Congress, noting that the veto is one of the stronger powers a president has. He said that if they send over things that are insane, he will veto them.

The President told The New York Times that he is willing to accept the results and will look forward to working with the Democrats to work something out. However, he also stated on Truth Social that he was not on the ballot and claimed that if he were, the Republicans would have won in a landslide.

Fox News reported that young, independent, rural, and Hispanic voters shifted away from the GOP, influenced by issues such as tariffs and the Iran war. Democrats won Senate seats in South Carolina and Texas, as well as a seat in Kansas.

CNN reported that voters also considered inflation, Trump's tariffs, the Iran war, and concerns regarding the President's conduct and self-enrichment. A Democratic House majority could increase scrutiny through investigations, hearings, and subpoenas.

With control of the Senate, Democrats can seek to block judicial nominees and cabinet appointments, launch investigations, and issue subpoenas to impact the President's legislative agenda.
