Trump claims Republicans would have won in a landslide if he was on the ballot

The US President made the remarks on social media as Republicans faced significant losses in several key states during the midterm elections.

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the Republican Party would have achieved a massive victory if the midterm elections had been contested using ballot paper. According to Business Today, Trump posted on Truth Social that he was not on the ballot and claimed a landslide win would have occurred had he been included.

The Republican Party faced several losses across various states. In North Carolina, Democrat Roy Cooper defeated Republican Michael Whatley with 58.52 per cent of the votes. In South Carolina, Democrat Annie Andrews beat Darline Graham, the sister of late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, by more than 71,000 votes.

Other Democratic victories included Vicente Gonzalez defeating Republican Eric Flores in Texas by 30,855 votes, and Janelle Stelson winning the US House seat in Pennsylvania against Republican incumbent Scott Perry. In New Mexico, Democrat Deb Haaland secured 56.6 per cent of the vote to defeat Republican Greggory D. Hull, who received 43.4 per cent.

Data from the Indian American Attitudes Survey (IAAS) shows a shift in voter support. While 30 per cent of Indian Americans supported Trump in the 2024 presidential election, only 19 per cent now plan to vote for Republican House candidates. Meanwhile, Democratic support remains at 62 per cent.

Anil Raman, head of the America Programme at the Takshashila Institution, told Firstpost that a Republican defeat could lead Trump to focus more heavily on foreign policy. Raman noted that while Democrats might attempt to limit war-making powers, national security remains largely the president's domain.
