Karnataka to train 5,000 government school teachers in AI
The JanAI initiative, launched by the Head Held High Foundation, will run for 12 months starting in January 2027.
The Karnataka government aims to train 5,000 government school teachers across the state in Basic Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy, according to The Hindu.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the JanAI initiative at the Namma Shaale, Namma Javabdari programme. The project is an initiative by the Head Held High Foundation.
The programme will be implemented from January to December 2027 in coordination with the Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Karnataka. It seeks to provide teachers with foundational knowledge and practical skills to use AI tools in their professional roles.
Training will cover AI fundamentals, the use of common AI tools, effective prompting, and applications for lesson preparation and teaching. The curriculum will also focus on responsible adoption, including identifying misinformation, understanding AI limitations, and protecting student data privacy.
The initiative is designed to be accessible to teachers who have no prior knowledge of AI and will be contextualised to their specific needs.
