Six fishermen found dead on Andhra Pradesh coast
Search operations continue for three remaining fishermen after a boat from Chennai's Kasimedu fishing harbour went missing following an engine failure.
Six fishermen from Chennai's Kasimedu fishing harbour were found dead on the Andhra Pradesh coast, according to a report by Urban Acres. The fishermen were part of a nine-person crew on a boat that went missing after experiencing engine failure at sea.
The vessel had departed Kasimedu on October 29 heading towards Ramayapatnam harbour in Andhra Pradesh. Contact with the crew was lost after the engine developed a fault during Cyclone Murasu.
The bodies of six individuals washed ashore at Pallipalam beach near Kothapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. While the body of Mohan, 47, has been identified, the identities of the other five deceased fishermen have not yet been confirmed.
The missing crew members include Kasimedu residents Surya, 49, Kuppan, 48, Rajesh, 52, Murugan, 48, Kuppusamy, 58, Vijayakanth, 44, and Aravind, 40. The ninth person, Narayanan, 57, is from Cuddalore.
The Kasimedu Fisheries Department assistant director requested help from the Indian Coast Guard after boat owner Selvalagan reported the crew missing. The request sought assistance in finding both the vessel and the fishermen.
The Indian Coast Guard is currently conducting operations to locate the three fishermen who are still missing. Further details are expected once the identification process for the recovered bodies is finished.
