Pune teenager writes 60-page recovery guide for acid attack survivors

Sia Domkundwar's resource is being distributed to 10 hospitals across India through the Chhanv Foundation.

A 16-year-old from Pune, Sia Domkundwar, has authored a 60-page skincare and recovery guide titled 'The Glow Guide' for burn and acid attack survivors. According to the Times of India, the resource is being shared with 10 hospitals across India through the Chhanv Foundation.

The guide was developed following Domkundwar's research, which included interviewing approximately eight survivors and consulting with doctors and specialists. She noticed a gap in information regarding non-prescription products and everyday care, such as suitable moisturiser, clothing, hair care, and cosmetics.

The 60-page document covers topics including skincare, scalp care, nail care, hygiene, nutrition, and clothing. It features an ingredient guide to help readers understand product labels and a 'Glow Directory' containing information on products, professionals, and non-governmental organisations.

Domkundwar created the guide through BuildUp, a mentored internship programme. During the project, she connected with the Chhanv Foundation, which supports the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors.

Anshu, a survivor associated with the Chhanv Foundation, told Mid-Day that it had been difficult to understand which skincare products were suitable without proper guidance. Domkundwar stated that the guide does not prescribe medication or suggest a fixed routine, but offers information for readers to explore based on individual needs.

The guide is currently available in English. There are plans to build a digital presence to make the information more accessible.
