Bengaluru: Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspector suspended for alleged misconduct

Gopal B. Rathod was suspended following allegations that he reported for duty intoxicated and misbehaved with members of the public.

An Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspector (ARSI) attached to the CAR Western Squad, Gopal B. Rathod, has been placed under immediate suspension in Bengaluru. According to The Hindu, the suspension follows allegations that Rathod was under the influence of alcohol while on bandobast duty within the Annapoorneshwari Nagar Police Station limits.

The incident occurred when members of the public objected to the officer's behaviour after noticing he was allegedly intoxicated. A heated argument reportedly ensued, which escalated when some people allegedly roughed up the officer before handing him over to Hoysala patrolling police personnel.

Witnesses at the scene demanded that the officer undergo an alcohol breathalyser test to confirm his condition. A video of the incident was recorded on a mobile phone and circulated on social media, with the person tagging the Home Minister and the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to demand action.

The incident reportedly caused embarrassment among senior police officials. The jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has been directed to conduct an inquiry.

Gopal B. Rathod remains under suspension pending a departmental inquiry into the matter.
